“You may recall we did a call out early this year for a lead artist to work with Wiltshire’s 18 community areas to create a commemorative community textile to celebrate and thank our Armed Forces. The groups and individuals were steered by artist Suzie Gutteridge, who put the final textile together.  The community textile is on display at the Armed Forces Day 2019 National Event taking place in Salisbury this weekend 28 to 30 June 2019. “It has been a privilege to facilitate this community project to make a celebratory piece of textile marking Armed Forces Day National Event 2019.

The 18 community groups all began the project with the same initial brief, time scale, materials and colour palette. They have produced such individual and poignant pieces. It has been a fascinating and moving experience seeing how each group focused on their area’s relationship with the Armed Forces within their local community.

The 18 pieces culminate in a representation of the many stories of both past and present history of Wiltshire – a wonderful legacy.”
